During his tenure, the school became one of the most sought-after independent schools in the nation’s capital. As the Executive Director for the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington assisting 78 of the leading independent schools in the D.C. area, Dick led successful efforts to reverse a decade-long decline in the organization’s membership and establish strong partnerships with other associations.
Dick has served on scores of school and association boards in leadership positions, including the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS), Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington (AISGW), Beauvoir, Browne Academy, the Diener School, and the Elsie W. Stoke Charter School. He has also served his alma mater as a member of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) Chancellor’s Council, and as the creator of its UMSL in DC Internship Program.
Dick has continued to teach high school and middle school students’ literature and writing, starting in traditional public schools in St. Louis and more recently in independent and charter schools in D.C. His independent high school teaching has included at the John Burroughs School in St. Louis and several independent and charter schools in the DC area including at the Bullis School, DeMatha High School, the SEED School. He also serves as a volunteer teach and assistant at St. Albans Church in its evening education program and Children’s Chapel.
In recent years he has assisted with students in independent and public schools in completing their applications to colleges as well as preparing them for the written parts of their SAT and ACT testing.
Dick holds a doctorate and a master’s degree from Stanford University in education policy; a master’s degree in linguistics from Ball State University; and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
